Angel of Ice Preview

I can’t believe it – my debut novel ANGEL OF ICE is due to release tomorrow 15th December!!

I am so excited for you to read it finally.

Angel of Ice is a romantic suspense. It’s the perfect combination of hot romance and an intriguing mystery. Added to that, if you love charming small-town romances then you will definitely enjoy Angel of Ice. The novel is set in the close-knit town of Edenville.

It features a gorgeous PI Nick Holt and a beautiful and feisty florist Laura Fenwick.

Sparks fly when Laura begins to meddle in a murder case that Nick has been hired to investigate.

Here is the opening scene from Angel of Ice:-

Cindy Capwell was certain she was being watched. Her cornflower-blue eyes scanned the park but she couldn’t see anyone out of the ordinary. It was the familiar sea of faces. The residents of Edenville.

She picked up her half-eaten turkey sandwich and then put it back down on her lap. Her stomach felt queasy and she suddenly found it difficult to breath. She wondered if she were having a panic attack of some sort.

It had seemed like a good idea to have lunch outdoors in the fresh air and under the winter sun. But now she felt alone and vulnerable. An icy trickle of apprehension slid down her spine. She just couldn’t shrug off the feeling of being watched. She may have laughed it off and put it down to an active imagination, if she hadn’t begun receiving the sinister gifts over the last two weeks.

First, just a single red rose left on her front doorstep. Followed by a framed photo of herself. The photo had been taken at her friend Laura Fenwick’s birthday party a month ago. And then a red scarf scented with her favorite perfume. The most disturbing gift had appeared on her doorstep that morning. A lock of blond hair in a tiny silver locket. Cindy was sure it was her hair. She’d visited the salon the day before for a haircut. It meant that, whoever was stalking her, had been at the salon and had somehow grabbed a lock of her hair.

But the salon had been full of ladies engrossed in the latest gossip.

So who was stalking her? Was it her ex-husband Mark? He had a fierce temper and Cindy had borne the brunt of that temper over the course of their marriage. And Mark was a notorious gambler. Cindy had spent thousands of dollars paying off his gambling debts and loan sharks. But Mark was a direct in-your-face type of guy. He didn’t have the patience for playing snide games. No. It wasn’t Mark. Cindy’s instinct told her it was someone else. A stranger, perhaps. Or maybe someone she knew.

Cindy thought about her friend Laura, who was strong, smart, and one of the most compassionate people she knew. Laura was also the goddaughter of Edenville’s Sheriff. Cindy decided she would speak to Laura about her fears. Laura could accompany her to see Sheriff Swinton and he could look into the matter. Maybe even arrange for some protection for her. Cindy knew she was treading on a very thin rope. She couldn’t handle things on her own. She had to confide in Laura and the sheriff before things spiralled totally out of control.

Cindy tossed the sandwich into a bin and began walking toward the Town Square. She took in deep breaths, willing her erratic heartbeat to slow. Edenville’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting was taking place at The Square the following night, and Cindy was due to unveil a nativity scene she’d sculpted out of ice. As much as she loved ice sculpting, she now regretted ever taking on the task which felt like an uncomfortable load on her already heavy shoulders. She had to complete the sculpture of the baby Jesus in the manger before tomorrow night. She was glad her sister Caroline was visiting from New York. Caroline had helped her sculpt some of the pieces in the nativity scene. But mostly Caroline was looking after Cindy’s busy bakery, Sugar & Spice.

Cindy looked ahead and cursed when she saw Jack Davison, an arrogant business tycoon, whom she’d outbid on Westerdale, a prime piece of property on the outskirts of town. Davison, known to be a ruthless businessman, was livid when she outbid him three months ago, and since then he’d been constantly harassing her into selling him the property. He had plans to open up a chemical factory on the land while Cindy envisioned setting up a spa and wellness centre.

Westerdale was beautiful scenic land and she couldn’t imagine it being turned into a toxic factory. Which was why she’d been holding out firm against Davison. She was not going to allow him to bully her into selling him that land. And she was determined to move ahead with her plans for the wellness centre.

Cindy veered off a different path to escape Davison’s attention. She was not in the mood for another face-off with the overbearing man, but it seemed she was out of luck for her other nemesis, Tina Avery, was directly in her path.

Cindy’s heart thudded as she came face-to-face with Tina, owner of Something Sweet. The woman had once reigned as Edenville’s queen of cakes until Sugar & Spice began eating away at her clientele.

Tina fixed her with a furious glare. “The Morrison’s always ordered their Christmas cakes from me. But this year, they’re choosing your cakes over mine!”

A sheen of perspiration dotted Cindy’s brow. “I had no idea they used to deal with you. They just placed their orders and—”

“Well, you will cancel their orders and tell them you’re no longer in business!” Tina boomed, her double chin wobbling furiously. She wagged a plump finger at Cindy. “I said this to you before and I’ll say it again: Edenville ain’t big enough for two bakeries. I’ve been here for close onto thirty years and before that, my grandmama for over fifty years. Something Sweet is part of this town’s history and I’m not going to lose my family legacy over the likes of you.”

Cindy gasped, the blood draining from her face. “You want me to close down my bakery?”

Tina’s mouth curved into a triumphant smile. “That’s exactly what I’m saying.” She rolled her eyes. “Finally the fancy blonde from New York is listening to me,” she muttered under her breath before dawdling away.

Cindy sank onto a bench to catch her breath. Her legs had turned to water and her body was limp as a rag doll. She froze at the sound of rustling in a nearby bush. Again. That overpowering feeling of being watched. Terrified, Cindy realized she was prey for an unseen predator.

Angel Of Ice

Yes, I know there’s been a long gap since my last blog post.

And I feel terribly guilty for having lagged behind.

As they say LIFE HAPPENS and 2017 really has been a busy and exciting year.

It’s also been a year of change. My work routine was overhauled in May when I began producing the drive show on Lotus Fm which airs 3-6pm.  So that meant adjusting to new office hours and also getting home much later in the evenings.

The downside to this was that my writing projects had to be put on the backburner.

Then three months ago, I resolved to create time for my writing and I began plotting and writing my debut novel ANGEL OF ICE.

I’m thrilled to let you know that it’s due to release officially on 15th December 2017.

It is a romantic suspense and I had the most amazing experience writing it.

I will be blogging more about that in the days to come – but for now, I just wanted to share the blurb and cover with you!

When PI, Nick Holt is hired by wealthy industrialist Reginald Baxter to find out who murdered his granddaughter Cindy Capwell, in the small town of Edenville, the last thing he needs is a meddling florist to distract him with her alluring beauty.

Laura Fenwick is determined to figure out who killed her friend and insists on aiding Nick in his investigation.  In the pursuit of the killer, passion explodes between them, and Laura realizes a danger far greater than trapping a killer: it’s having her heart captured by a man who doesn’t believe in love.

What my wonderful editor Kathy Bosman had this to say about the book:-

“Angel of Ice is a keep-you-on-your-toes suspense  and  romance. The romance is deep and hot, the plot complex and well-paced, and the characters will keep you glued to the pages.”

And check out this stunning cover – what do you think of it? Drop me a comment below.

Manifest Your Soulmate

Valentine’s Day ~ the day of love and romance has just passed by.

It’s not a grand day though if you are single and feeling depressed about your single status.

If you are single, then take heart. You’re not forgotten.

Today, by the way is Single Awareness Day – a day meant to celebrate all singletons with the key message that it’s okay to be single and there are numerous benefits to enjoying a single lifestyle.

But many singletons reach a point where they’re done with being lonely and they yearn to establish a deep and romantic connection.

They yearn to meet their Soulmate.

I’ve always found the concept of having a Soulmate rather intriguing – so I
chatted to Merle Cutten Westcott – a Life Alignment practitioner and asked her all about Soulmates and How to Manifest a Soulmate Relationship….

Merle, what is your definition of a soulmate?
That person who you connect with immediately. Usually a connection that you have never experienced before. Often a deep love connection, and it may be the kind of connection where within weeks you know that you will be with this person forever.
Who is a soulmate?
Soulmates can be your husband, lover or even friend. Sometimes you connect with a person on such a deep level that you can share everything with them. They are like a sister or mother to you, but there is no romantic connection. When we talk about manifesting a soulmate relationship we need to be very clear: are you looking for a life partner or friend?
How does one recognize their soulmate?
Not only will you feel an immediate attraction to the person, but over time the attraction will turn to love. The relationship needs to be one that allows you to be yourself and to grow. Often people think they have found their soulmate but in fact the relationship turns out to be toxic. You have to continually ask: is this serving me? In a soulmate relationship you support each other and allow each other to shine. A relationship where one person is jealous and holds the other back is not that of a soul mate.
I’ve heard of Twin Flames. Can you elaborate on this and is there a difference between Soulmates and Twin Flames?
A twin flame is our mirror, not our spiritual soulmate. So the relationships are often stormy. This doesn’t mean that they don’t work, the key here is that both the parties have to have learnt to love themselves, or they bring all their baggage into the relationship.
Why do people generally struggle to meet their soulmates and what blocks them from enjoying fulfilling romantic relationships?
The fact that we carry baggage, or cellular memory from every experience we have ever had, as well as memory from our parents and grandparents, means that we have blockages in our energetic field. Sometimes these prevent us from meeting the right person. And then if we do they often stop us from enjoying a fulfilling relationship, releasing these blockages opens us up to finding true love.
Is meeting one’s Soulmate the guarantee of a happy-ever-after love story?
Not at all. All relationships require work and commitment. If you are carrying past hurt that manifests in awful behavior no relationship will survive.
If one wishes to manifest a Soulmate relationship – what action should they take?
Working on yourself is a good way to manifest a Soulmate relationship. In Life Alignment we would work according to your higher self and release the blockages in your cellular memory, this impacts on how you function in the world. If you think of yourself as a pool of clear water and all the experiences you have ever had as the mud in the pool, then every time we do a balance we remove mud until the pool is clear again. As children we absorb the emotions of everyone around us, so for example children from divorced families, will often not manifest a relationship as the cellular memory tells them all relationships fail. If we release that memory from the cell, they still remember the details, we never erase that, but they are able to move on without the expectation that all relationships fail.
Your final words of advice to anyone who wants to attract a soulmate relationship?
Love yourself, and have a clear picture in your mind of what you want from a relationship. You can then attract the right kind of relationship. If you want a home and kids, no point in visualizing life on a yacht with a handsome sailor. I always tell my students and clients that, “Where thought goes energy flows.”
Thanks so much, Merle! I look forward to hosting you again to chat more about Life Alignment and how it can help people manifest their dream lives.

Second Chances Love Anthology

I’m incredibly excited to be featured in the Second Chances Love Anthology. It is a beautiful collection of feel-good romantic stories. I’m in the company of talented writers, Kathy Bosman (who is also editor of the anthology), Leenna Naidoo, E.A.West and Patricia Kiyono.

As the title suggests, our stories are all about second chances in love. The most wonderful part about the Second Chances initiative is that all proceeds from the book will be donated to Hope In Christ Children’s Home in my hometown Newcastle, KwaZulu Natal. It’s been rewarding knowing that I’m using my writing skills to serve a greater cause. Hope In Christ strives to provide children affected by abuse, neglect and HIV, a safe and loving haven.  The children are nurtured and are given their second chance in life to grow into healthy and well-adjusted adults.

My Second Chances story is titled Giovanni’s Christmas Bride. Here is a bit about how I was lucky enough to become part of the Second Chances anthology and some background on the romance I’ve contributed.

A few years ago, I wrote a 2000 word short story titled All In One Night. It featured a struggling single mother who on a dark stormy night ends up on the doorstep of the man she’d betrayed five years ago. The former lovers get the chance to clear the misunderstandings of the past and they discover they have a second chance at love. It all happens as the title suggested – in one night! I’d forgotten about this story until I’d come across a Facebook post by Kathy Bosman calling for writers to be a part of the Second Chances Anthology. I contacted her and she included me in the Second Chances Facebook group.  She thereafter sent me the brief and criteria for the anthology.

I immediately knew that All In One Night would be the perfect basis for my Second Chances romance. That story evolved into Giovanni’s Christmas Bride, giving me scope to delve deeper into the characters of Brennan Shaw and Giovanni Ferruccio and explore their passionate but complicated love story.

I decided on a Christmas themed romance as the Second Chances Anthology is releasing at the start of the December holidays. I’ve always enjoyed reading Christmas romances (and watching Christmas romantic movies) so I really liked having Brennan and Giovanni rediscover their love for each other during this magical season. What could be more romantic than blazing log fires, mistletoe kisses and planning a Christmas wedding?

As you read Giovanni’s Christmas Bride I hope your heart will be touched by Giovanni and Brennan’s second chance at love and that you enjoy their story, as much as I enjoyed writing it.
